Distressed, Bleached and Dyed shorts

So I came across an online shop and I really like their shorts...the shorts is distressed and dyed to different colors. And since it is a bit expensive for me and I am still cutting my wants' budget, I  headed to the youtube website and searched for "how to make the shorts".

I am surprised that it was easy and does not cost that much. Here it goes....

First, find an old shorts or jeans (the kind of shorts that you could throw anywhere).

One of my old shorts...so plain

Next, cut it based on your preferences...the shorter the better (wink*). You could line it up first just to ensure that your cut is straight or at least close to straight.

Line and cut
You could also accent by cutting it somewhere in the middle...

Using sandpaper, rub it on the portion of the shorts on where it was cut to give that distressed effect.

After which, bleach the shorts. I utilized Zonrox bleaching solution. Remember to dilute it with water. It may run for 5 to 8 hours. I have bleached only the bottom portion.

If you have already achieved that bleach effect, wash the shorts with water and allow it to dry.

Next, you dye the shorts. You could use the dye sold in the school supplies area. Just follow the instructions written at the back portion of the dye.
Putting some color...love some violet
After mixing it for 1 hour in a hot water, I leaved it on overnight. The next day, I washed the shorts and let it dry. When I evaluated my shorts, I think it still lacks something, so I decided to bleach it again, this time it is the upper portion (waistline).

To add accent of my already distressed, bleached and dyed shorts, I put some studs at the front and back portion, on the pocket area.

And there it is!!! my new shorts. Total cost?

Bleaching agent         30.00
Dye                          15.00
Studs                        48.00
                                93.00

Go and make one for yourself!!!
